Planning on herding? If so, don't neglect the engagement part of Get SET for herding success! You may not have easy access to livestock, but you don't need to have penned stock to work on engagement.

Building your dog's engagement with you, while near stock, can take time. Start early and work on it often to encourage your dog to keep one ear on the livestock and one ear on you.

The key to engagement training is starting far enough away from the stock to ensure your dog's success. If your dog cannot take treats or play, you are too close.
