Why engagement training is so difficult

Your dog deals well with distractions such as changes in your position, novel props added to the training area, and moving to new locations. Easy peasy!

So why is engagement training so much more difficult? Is it the sight or smell of the stock or the instinctual need to control movement that makes engagement training so difficult? Or is it something else?

In this video I explain why I believe engagement training is exponentially more difficult for dogs than traditional distraction training.
