PHD Blog 79 - Dawg on Chair(s)
Dawg Unleashed # 19
What's up with all this sittin' down?
I might be a bit slow on the uptake, but it took me quite a while to figure out why my BFF spent so much time sitting in chairs. (Dawg here, if you are confused.) She seemed to always be sitting; in front of her computer, in the car, or sometimes even watching TV.
I am more of a get-up-and-go type of dog and all of my buddies are too. So all of this sitting was puzzling to me. I asked around and my buds reported that their BFFs were acting much the same.
What's a dog to do? We want action and lots of it! Of course, I am pretty used to her being a stick in the mud with bouts of activity thrown in. And I must admit that she is quite reliable about taking me and my buds on walks everyday. On the walks she always allows us to just be dogs. (Thank goodness!)
When she started taking a seat in our sheep training area, that is where I drew the line. This just could not be right! Did she have a chair fetish or what?
I thought that she was just being lazy and that made me angry. I know she is pretty old but don't we dogs deserve better?
Then one day I figured out what was going on. She was working with Sir, you know what a nut case he can be, and I realized that she was sitting to encourage Sir to relax. This had never occurred to me because I am naturally calm, cool, and collected in all situations. (Well, maybe almost all situations.) Sir, not so much. He is like the Energizer Bunny.
I am used to being around BCs but Sir even wears me out. If I could bottle his energy and sell it, I would be rich. I mean filthy rich.
Believe it or not - it worked! Slowly over time, Sir began to relax near the sheep and eventually, even I can't believe it, he started to notice Barb existed. Before it was as if the world consisted of him and the sheep. Nothing more, nothing less.
Maybe all of that sitting in chairs near sheep wasn't just laziness. Maybe there was a method to her madness.
Or maybe not, you can decide for yourself. I am leaning toward the explanation that Sir is truly a nutcase and Barb sat down near him to ponder if she could get away with having him suddenly disappear.
Truth be told, I would be just fine with that outcome. But don't tell Sir, we already have a bit of a turf war going on. He just seems to get all of the limelight and I don't get my fair share.
Maybe I could make him disappear. (Just kidding!)
PS - If you do want to help your BFF with their herding journey, I know having my BFF's book Positive Herding 101 will make their path less rocky and much more fun!
