Dawg Unleashed # 7
Dawg on rats
Dawg here again: Barb has been giving Sir all of the fun and attention lately when she should be focusing on me. I don't know why she cannot see that I am not only better looking than Sir but tons smarter. Her time would be so much more well spent working with me, Shandler, and the crew but there is no accounting for her thoughts and actions. Sigh...
Dawg on rats, no not those rats – flirt pole rats!
Who doesn’t love a good, fast rat? Now I know your BFF probably isn’t into rats but honestly, do you know of a dog that can resist a rat on the run? I know I can’t!
Of course, I am talking about a Flirt Pole rat and not your garden variety live rat. The live ones are fun but hard to come by. I know the FP rat is not alive but dang, who can watch that rat escape and not feel desperate to grab it? The problem is that my BFF is always putting rules in my way.
I can only go after it or grab it when Barb says “Get it!.” Do you know how hard that is? Nearly impossible for me! If I hear a click or a “yes”, all is fine and dandy but I still am not allowed to grab that darn rat. If I try to sneak a nip, it just escapes and I am left grabbing air.
Even if I am so close to the rat that I can almost hear it breathing, still no go until those magic words, “Get it!”. Now I love food and I love tugs. I am always up to work play for them but give me a rat or a sheep or some other prey and I am stoked.
What is great about sheep and other prey is that if I decide to become temporarily deaf, I can run in and chase or even grab. Feels soooooo good! But that darn rat always gets away from me. It must be a ton smarter than the sheep I herd. Not that the sheep I work are stupid, but they aren’t the brightest crayons in the box, if you get my drift. Or should I say they are smart but not nearly as brilliant as moi? Just sayin’.
I know that your BFF can use a tug, treat, or toy to play with you, but if you cannot get to sheep, ducks, etc., then politely ask them to pull out the FP and let the games begin!
As usual, I implore you to buy Barb's book and keep her (and me :) happy.
Until next time, tell your mates about this blog and...
